What can you automate with n8n?

Use connected nodes to move information between services and build repeatable processes.

📧

Email & notifications

Send alerts when a form is submitted, a task changes or a connected service returns new information.

📊

Data & spreadsheets

Process records, transform data and connect supported spreadsheet or database services.

How to install and run an n8n workflow

Follow these steps to set up a workflow from the ZigsFlow library in your own n8n environment.

  1. 01

    Find a workflow

Browse n8n workflows on ZigsFlow . Review the workflow description, required applications, expected inputs and setup instructions.

  2. 02

    Download the workflow JSON

Open the selected resource and download its workflow JSON file. Keep the original file as a backup before importing or editing it.

  3. 03

    Open your n8n instance

Sign in to your existing n8n Cloud account or self-hosted n8n instance. Make sure your account has permission to create or import workflows.

  4. 04

    Import the workflow

Open the workflow editor and use the import option supported by your n8n version. Select the downloaded JSON file or use the available clipboard import method, if supported.

  5. 05

    Configure credentials and settings

Open the relevant nodes and select or create the required credentials. Update spreadsheet IDs, API endpoints, email addresses and other example values as needed.

  6. 06

    Test each step

Use test execution and inspect the data returned by each node. Verify that the workflow processes the expected inputs and does not send unintended messages or modify production data.

  7. 07

    Save and activate the workflow

Save your changes and configure the trigger. Activate the workflow when the trigger and credentials are ready and you have verified the expected behaviour.

Important: Imported workflows may contain external requests, code nodes or actions that send or modify data. Inspect every node before running the workflow with real credentials.

Understand a simple workflow

This example shows the general structure of a workflow. It is an illustration, not an importable n8n JSON file.

⏰

1. Trigger

Starts the workflow when a configured schedule or event occurs. A manual trigger can be useful while testing.

⚙️

2. Process data

A node retrieves, filters, transforms or validates information before passing it to the next node.

🔌

3. Connect a service

A configured integration uses the appropriate credentials to perform an action in a supported application.

✅

4. Check the result

Inspect the execution output and handle errors so you can verify whether the intended task completed successfully.

Example flow: Manual Trigger → Edit Fields → Review Output. Use these nodes to learn how data moves through a workflow before connecting external services.

Common n8n node types

The available nodes depend on your n8n version and installed integrations.

Node type Purpose Example
Trigger Starts a workflow Schedule or webhook
HTTP Request Communicates with an API Retrieve information from a service
Edit Fields Sets or transforms fields Prepare data for another node
IF Routes data based on a condition Choose a path based on a value
Code Runs custom JavaScript or Python where supported Perform custom data processing

Common problems and solutions

Use the execution details and node output to diagnose errors.

Problem What to check
Invalid workflow JSON Download the file again and confirm it is a valid workflow export compatible with your n8n version.
Credentials missing Configure the required credentials and assign them to the appropriate nodes.
401 or 403 API error Check authentication, permissions, token validity and the API's access requirements.
Workflow does not trigger Verify the trigger configuration, activation status and webhook or schedule requirements.
Unexpected node output Inspect input data, expressions, field names and the output of the preceding node.
Workflow fails on large datasets Review resource limits, API rate limits, pagination and batch-processing settings.

Frequently asked questions

Essential details before you import your first workflow.

What is an n8n workflow?

An n8n workflow connects nodes to automate a process. Nodes can start a workflow, transform information, call APIs and connect supported applications.

Do I need coding experience to use n8n?

No. Many workflows can be configured visually. Some workflows require expressions, JavaScript, API knowledge or additional technical configuration.

How do I import a downloaded workflow?

In your n8n editor, use the workflow import option available in your version, commonly through the editor menu or by importing a workflow JSON file. Review the workflow before activating it.

Do I need to configure credentials?

Usually, if the workflow connects to private services. Create or select the appropriate credentials in n8n and connect them to the relevant nodes. Never share credential secrets in public workflow files.

Can I use n8n for free?

n8n offers a self-hosted Community Edition and paid options. Hosting, infrastructure and some integrations may have separate costs. Check the current n8n pricing and licensing terms for your intended use.

Why is my workflow not running?

Check whether the workflow is saved and active where required, the trigger is configured correctly, credentials are valid and the latest execution contains an error.

Is it safe to import workflows from the internet?

Not automatically. Inspect nodes, code, external URLs, data destinations and requested permissions. Test with sample data and trusted credentials before using a workflow in production.
